While watching the presidential debate, I was struck by how language is being distorted. As a result, I propose that all of us revisit George Orwell over 2020's remaining months.
George Orwell's "Animal Farm" can easily be read in an evening.
"Nineteen Eighty-Four" takes more time but it's well worth it.
Some other books on old George:
- "Churchill & Orwell" by Thomas E. Ricks. A very interesting comparison of the two giants.
- "The Last Man in Europe" by Dennis Glover. What a great idea to write a novel about Orwell. This one is both enjoyable and informative.
- "Why Orwell Matters" by Christopher Hitchens. I confess that I have not read this one but it's going on my stack. Here is a video of Hitchens discussing Orwell.
