Tolerate bullies and incompetents and you drive off good performers. Lay off mid-level solid performers and you've just told a new generation what may await them in 15 years. All decisions, regardless of immediate advantages, have unintended consequences. In some cases, the cost of those consequences is enormous even if the bill doesn't arrive until later.
