Every Sunday is Parrot Sunday for FutureLawyer and in this post he both bemoans and enjoys the wild parrots of Florida. The photo he features reminded me of the pleasures of Florida and that if I were not a confirmed Arizonan the state of wild parrots, beaches, and stray alligators would be a very appealing place to live.
Granted that while most states have their advantages - there are a few that strain the imagination - many of us regard some as perpetual homestead possibilities. Although my cotton farming grandfather would be baffled by the choice (one of his favorite terms was"water-stealing Californians") I've always included California on the list of States Where I Could Live Without Resorting to Heavy Drinking and Daytime Television.

I love southern California. After living in rainy western Washington for most of my life, I'm happy to be in a place where you can have a weekend activity planned and not have it rained out. If I were to move, these places are on my short list:
* Dallas, TX
* Phoenix, AZ
I think I'd like those places because they're cheaper than SoCal and warm/hot. As a friend said about his move to Dallas: "I love SoCal, and if money were no object I'd rather live there, but since it is, Dallas is pretty nice."

Thanks for the link, Michael. Actually, you might be surprised to hear that Arizona is a place I would love to live. I love the desert, the Saguaro, the Grand Canyon, and the dry climate. I suppose it goes to prove a point: the grass is always greener on the other side.

Aside from short trips, I spent several months in Florida while going through training at Patrick Air Force Base. [I was in the Army but that's another story.]
Florida has always been one of my favorite states.
