Omissions

The goals were sort of given once upon a time but they changed and although the supervisors made sure that new employees were given their job descriptions everyone knew those were outdated with the possible exception of "other duties as assigned" and no one in authority wanted to mico-manage and, as it turned out, they also didn't care to manage at all ("not my table") so matters drifted and things - important things - didn't get done and yet year after year the performance evaluations were fine and no one really wanted to say "What the hell's been going on here?" since that sounds rude and maybe cruel and this is a very polite place where people like to work because work is loosely defined and targets can be drawn after the darts are thrown and then one day, a fine day as a matter of fact, the roof began to fall in and people turned to one another and said, "Why didn't you do something about that?"
