One for the Books

FutureLawyer on some off-hand remarks that stayed with him:

When I was in College, I thought I was indestructible and that no situation was beyond my ability to control. I was permanently made aware of that fallacy by a Drill Sergeant who could have been sent by Central Casting. It was the first day of boot camp, and I was fresh off of my college campus. I had hair below my ears, and, true story, my golf clubs on my right shoulder, and my tennis racket on the left. Off the bus, we were told to stand in a line, and the Sergeant walked down the line. He paused in front of me, for what seemed to be a long time, and peered down at me. "Son" he said, "Someone sure misled you."
