Random Thoughts

Many of us fight daily duels with low-grade defeatism and self-rebuke. The unacknowledged role model of our time is Chauncey Gardiner. Few political figures are brilliant and fewer still can handle being brilliant. Not a week goes by without someone declaring that an apple is an orange. Those who vow to fight to the death for a particular principle often have schedule-conflicts on the day of the battle. When was it decided that fashion models should look like heroin addicts? I used to think that I noticed small things as a teenager but that was a mere apprenticeship. [On the other hand, I care less about them now.] With all of the leisure time which is treasured by the European nations, one would expect a new Renaissance; instead, there are simply demands for more time. Mocking the ambitious and the brave is a sport of those who rely upon the ambitious and the brave. Nowadays, charlatans are in less risk of ridicule than of getting a network television show. It can be difficult to convince someone that although they may not like that 2 + 2 = 4, two plus two does indeed equal four. Wise generals don't seek to stage a fair fight. Listening to Nat King Cole never fails to improve my mood. One glance at the headlines is a reminder to read more Roman history. The civility movement was a sham. There is a big difference between those who solve and those who blame but beware of those who loudly stress solutions in order to avoid blame.  Never abandon your search for truth and beauty.
