Scheduling Life as Well as Work

Many years ago found me on a freeway in southern California a few days before Christmas. My children were young and my wife was still decorating the house when I left.

I was on one of those consulting projects that seemed fine months earlier when it went on my calendar. My opinion changed as I dodged traffic and listened to carols on the radio.

Flash again to another Christmas week. That time I was training a bunch of managers in Lexington, Kentucky. The hotel had a New Orleans motif. I escaped all of the wrought iron to find a shop where I bought a small sculpture of an elf feeding a rabbit.

We still have it.

Although I got home in time for Christmas in both cases and all was well on the home front, those memories remain intensely painful to me..

Schedule with life in mind.
