When the Lyrics Linger

While listening to a Frank Sinatra CD last night, I was struck by the power of the lyrics and began to wonder how many of the current songwriters would be in the same league as those from the Thirties, Forties, Fifties, and Sixties.

Hmm. Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Andrew Lloyd Webber?

I must be missing a crowd of great lyricists. Who would be on your list?

Here is The Gold Standard.

I've read some analyses explaining why Kanye West is a great lyricist. Or the greatest modern. Or the greatest ever.

It at least convinced me that he's got more going on than I realized or appreciated.

I've read the same thing. Am not familiar with his work but will be checking it out.
