News Noise

Remember when the economic situation in Greece was front page news?

Until it suddenly wasn't?

There is an Orwellian twist to how the press hypes certain stories and then, as interest wanes, reverses course with a "Never mind, but look at this exciting new report!"

I've found that many of the "pressing" news stories can be treated like soap operas. Ignore most of the breathless reporting and check in on them once a week to see if Mary is still with Todd or if Elena survived that scary operation. Many of them, of course, can be ignored entirely.

If the subject is truly important, read a couple of books on the subject and scout out magazine and newspaper articles from all sides of the ideological spectrum.

And, if possible, book a trip to Athens.
