David Maister brings up the question of whether it is ethical to spend time helping the "worried well" - people who are fine but want to be reassured of their wellness.
My take is it is proper if the person is merely being prudent but is not proper if the dependency itself is unhealthy and prevents development.
I'm more worried about the people who don't ask for assistance and then court disaster. As the old line goes, hypochondriacs live long lives.
