The Car Biz
I know one salesman in Arizona who said he once saw a guy stroll into his store in shredded jean shorts and straggly hair and sunglasses, looking like a punk. My buddy ignored him. Well, it ended up that punk was rocker Alice Cooper and he bought six cars. These days, you can't tell who has money and who doesn't.

I'll confirm this - 1985 Ford dealer on Camelback blew me off looking at turbo-Thunderbird (if I remember right) because I was long haired wearing cut-offs and ratty t-shirt. They were busy selling some tiny box to a young couple. Trouble was I had cash for my car in my pocket. Went across street and made point of driving an RX-7 through the Ford lot. Later went to Buckeye Ford dealer and got attention immediately - they were used to dealing with the millionaire cotton farmers wandering in covered in dust to buy half a dozen pickups. Sadly, some things never change with too many sales folks - NEVER judge a customer by their dress. Respect and respond to everyone who comes through the door - dirty, stinky, ratty people have money, too.
That's a great reminder to be wary of writing off people because of appearance. Some of the wealthiest people I've known would never be cast in the role of "rich person" if appearance was all that mattered.
