Ego Problems

When used in small quantities, ego can be a stimulant. In large quantities, it can be a poison. A challenge for organizations and teams is how to keep a reasonable balance. Ego problems can easily arise in the following circumstances:
  1. People feel that their status has received insufficient respect.
  2. There are conflicting visions of egalitarianism versus merit.
  3. Team members have divided loyalties.
  4. Factions seek control.
  5. A statute of limitations is not applied to past sins.
  6. The organizational structure encourages resentment.
  7. Rank is pulled too often or where it is inappropriate.
