First Paragraph

Sgt. Robert Kightlinger, twenty-three, lay behind a dirt mound as rounds cracked overhead. His binoculars were fixed on a concrete mosque with arched windows on the far side of a poppy field. A young man in a gray burka was peeking out of the mosque.
