Studying French
Writing in The New Republic, John McWhorter questions whether studying French is worthwhile.
I've studied both French and Spanish [a hilarious Army document states that I'm fluent in French] and although I enjoy Spanish far more, studying French has been helpful. [Read enough political science theorists and you'll see why.]
Furthermore, the French language has an admirable precision - Steve Martin once observed "Those French have a word for everything!' - and, let's remember another virtue: French is beautiful.
