How about we have a corrosive political system that leads to American citizen's dissatisfaction?

One point I get is that "we" elected these bozos. And "we" tend to reelect them. Over and over and over and over...

So let's all get rah rah about America and her political system. Let's reverse the trend and not be so cynical. Fat chance fella.

This system deserves our cynicism at this point. It's earned it.

Things don't and won't change, like people don't and won't change, until the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the pain of changing, as any addict worth his / her salt knows.

But maybe we'll chose not to and our system will end up dead, like addicts end up dead if they don't change. Empires end. Nobody likes it, and when empires are ending, hardly anyone admits it. I tend to agree with Morris Berman's thesis in "Why America Failed."

Much as we would wish it was different, our country, almost from the very beginning, was built on what he calls "the hustle." The hustle spread fast and far and wide, but our country has never had any real depth, no authentic spiritual depth that can hold us together for the long haul. His arguments are persuasive to me.

People rightly disdain our political system now because of what it has become. Mr. Wehner expects us to change and respect and revere it again? All because of how and why our government was founded / started?

Maybe the political system needs to change so it can be respected again by the people.

Thus sayeth E.

E,

Ha!

I'm sure I'm closer to Wehner than to Berman but thanks for your take.
