Police Practices

Given the news, this might be a good time to read or re-read the following books:

• Official Negligence, an extraordinary book which Lou Cannon wrote about Rodney King and the LAPD. [It has a lot on L.A.'s decision to abandon the choke hold.]
• Verbal Judo by George Thompson. This book's techniques to defuse conflict are included in many police department training programs.
• The Crime Fighter by Jack Maple tells about the crime reduction efforts in the New York Police Department.
• And I'll soon be reading L.A. '56: by Joel Engel. It looks intriguing.
