Becoming Steve Jobs

Fortune magazine reports that Apple execs are describing the new biography - Becoming Steve Jobs - as a more accurate depiction of the man they knew.

The book will be released today.

This is an interesting bit of theater. Isaacson wrote the "authorized" biography of Steve Jobs. He was aware of the contents. When it was published, no one at Apple commented about it being "unfair" or portraying a different Steve Jobs from the one they knew. I haven't read Isaacson's biography. But I have read his book The Innovators where Jobs is portrayed. I thought he gave Jobs a fair treatment. I'm assuming it was similar to the way he treated Jobs in the bio. The question I keep asking myself is: "If Steve Jobs thought Isaacson's book was fine, why do current Apple execs think otherwise?"

Wally,

I have the same questions. The usual attack on authorized biographies is that they are too kind.

I think I've figured this one out. I don't think the Apple folks are getting behind the book because of what it says about Steve Jobs as much as they like that they are portrayed as his worthy successors.

Wally,

Interesting take. This is sort of like the old Cold War days when who was standing where at the May Day parade was carefully studied.
