The Mandatory Exhaustion

I taught a workshop today and am now exhausted.

It's my style.

I've seen instructors who sit during their presentations and occasionally pop a PowerPoint slide on the screen. Each time, I've felt some envy. They aren't bad instructors. They present good solid, information, but I couldn't use their sedentary approach.

We each develop our own styles. Part of mine involves an energetic, fast-paced presentation of the material; one that conveys a passion for the subject. I rarely get a chance to sit down and I'm not stuck behind a lectern. Questions may be asked at any time and there is a lot of pacing as well as a mass of case examples.

I know of instructors who can quickly resume a normal lifestyle after training. Not so in my case. I want to collapse. Every step to my car on the way back could be felt.

The class, however, was a success. That's what matters.

Are you an introvert Mr. Wade? Curious.

E,

Very much although my classes probably don't suspect that.

I understand, and I'm sure they don't suspect (you're just that good), but it takes it out of you, huh? Is it like needing, in a sense, to force yourself to be "on" for a number of people, when you would much prefer to have a good talk with one person, or be with no one at all? Again, I'm just really curious. Your presentations and training require an energy from you that just is the part of a package that comes with extroversion. Hence the exhaustion. It's work! We extroverts are energized by a day of facilitating good training. Yes it's work to me, but I don't have to push through anything. Keep up the good work Michael. E.

E,

Good points.

I don't believe I've ever been energized by a training session!

I envy you!
