The great Robert Conquest has died. Cultural Offering provides some perspectives.
In a just world, he would have been a household name. Here is one of my favorite Conquest insights (and as a management consultant I have many occasions to recall it):
"The simplest way to explain the behavior of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies."
