The Condemnation Game
Ned Beatty in "Network" pretty much nailed what we are seeing more frequently in this country. Disagree with a point of view? Shout it down. Don't like a law passed by a state? Boycott them. Don't assume that they simply have a different opinion on a complicated subject. Proclaim that they are evil. Don't use reason, use coercion. Because your side, of course, is pure.

Counterpoint: it's hard to respect an opinion when that opinion disrespects another person's existence.

You don't need to respect an opinion to permit it to be voiced or to accord basic courtesy to the other person.
