Anderson Layman's Blog has posted the video of "Different Drum" by The Stone Poneys.
I was a student at the University of Arizona when that song became a big hit. It was hard to avoid as its terrible lyrics hammered away from all sides.
"You can't see the forest for the trees?"
"Honey child?"
It was painful.
But, of course, Linda Ronstadt, a local favorite from a prominent Tucson family, was their lead vocalist and her beauty caused many to overlook whatever dreck she was singing.
She later left The Stone Poneys. Both her career and the caliber of her songs improved considerably.
"Different Drum" is no "Poor Poor Pitiful Me."
