Althouse has the response from the Cherokee Nation regarding Elizabeth Warren's DNA test.
The harsh tone is not surprising. I can recall employment policies in the 1970s and 1980s that were along similar lines. A key question was always whether or not the individual was on any tribal rolls. A reason for the caution was - I know this is hard for innocents to believe - there were non-Indians who sought Affirmative Action preferences by claiming they were American Indian.
Shocking.
