Hypersensitivity and Scoundrels
Along with those who do and say offensive things in the workplace, we might accord appropriate time to those hypersensitive or manipulative (perhaps both!) souls who devote significant time to playing gotcha.
If there is any possible way of twisting innocent words into an offense, they can find it. Wise leaders will recognize just how damaging such game-playing can be to unit morale. Keep a word-twister around long enough and good people will depart.
It is a sign of the times that any acknowledgement that such people exist can in turn be translated as an assertion that legitimate complaints do not exist.
That, of course, is nonsense.
And any well-managed workplace needs to draw the difference between the two categories.
