The Notepad by the Side of the Bed

That notepad or notebook by your bed is essential. You may think that when morning arrives, you'll remember the brilliant idea or project that floated in during the late evening or the middle of the night.

You won't.

But you'll probably remember the lyrics to some mind-numbing song from the Sixties.

Ideas are fickle. They want immediate attention.

Write them down.

I'm definitely in favor of capturing ideas as soon as you get them. Otherwise, they'll flit away like butterflies in the wind, but the notepad next to the bed just has never worked for me. A few years ago I tried it for the last time. I Woke up in the night with a spectacular idea. As I recall, it would bring about universal peace and an end to world hunger. I jotted it down on the pad next to my bed. In the morning, I sprang for my bed to see what idea I had captured. There on the pad in front of me were the words, “ brown cow."

Wally,

That was a laugh out loud message!

It is quite true that what seems brilliant at 2 a.m. may lose its spark a few hours later.

Thanks!

Michael
