I spent part of Friday afternoon visiting a relative in the hospital.
Later that day, because of various complications and the need to inform other family members, there was a scramble to track down one person's office number and another's cell phone number. One sister had some information and a brother had some more and we eventually got everyone connected.
Several years back - after another crisis - we'd assembled a contact sheet. In almost no time it became obsolete. Divorces, graduations, out of state moves, and simple decisions to switch cell phone carriers or e-mail addresses can quickly take their toll.
There's nothing profound here; just a reminder to keep in touch because people, like phone numbers, slip away.
