Miscellaneous and Fast

The trailer for "The Hunger Games."
Don't use the same compliments and expect it won't be noticed.
The last scene of "Henry V."
Steven Pressfield on why he doesn't give speeches.
Kevin D. Williamson on "no wi fi" signs.

Thanks especially for the Henry V link. Among my list of regrets is a serious deficit of knowledge of both Shakespeare and English history. Although it's too late to go back and stuff it all in, I have great appreciation for quality when I see it.

I knew a congregation once that sang that anthem every other Sunday at the end of the Sunday morning service. This clip gives it special depth and brings back good memories.

John,

It's never too late for at least some good bites of English history and Shakespeare! You'll love it.

I like the story about the congregation. What a great idea.

How well I know, Michael. In my post-retirement job as a caregiver, mostly but not always for seniors, I keep that "All the world's a stage" soliloquy from As You Like It on my desk pad. When I was young I made it a point to memorize treasures like that but now I am forced to keep them around in note form.

I'm in the sixth age now
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
His youthful hose, well-saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound.

And I might add up in the middle of the night for a few Advil to soothe those old muscles waking me up after yesterday's project in the yard.

John,

I've decided to start memorizing poetry again both as an exercise and for the pleasure.

Little steps.
