Whatever Works versus The Best

There are times when "whatever works" will be "as good as it gets." In a rush-and-tumble world, going for a pragmatic solution can be a wise way to have a productive day.

Searching for the best, while desirable, is often regarded as seeking the impossible. There is much truth in the saying, "The best is the enemy of the good." Perfectionism paralyzes many a capable person.

At the same time, if we fall into the habit of only going for the quick and easy solution, we aren't going to be pursuing excellence or perhaps anything close to it. The bar for whatever works has to be examined and raised or our adoption of the practical will only be an embrace of the mediocre.
