First Paragraph

To film industry leaders, the Disney brothers were a curiosity, their studio an enclave in the parched flatness of the San Fernando Valley, their heritage derived from the American heartland rather than New York City's East Side and the ghettos of eastern Europe. The Disneys' counterparts at other studios admired but did not understand Walt's accomplishment in raising cartoons to a genuine art. Nor did they understand the inner workings of the studio and the unique partnership of the two brothers.
