Attitudes

Cool beats square. Ragged is better than smooth. Distressed beats shiny. Sloppy is genuine while neat is uptight or insincere. The Third World has inherently superior values and insights. Western civilization is suspect. Raspy voices are better than melodious. Poetry that rhymes is hokey. Everything is political. Sexual morality is an outmoded concept. War never solved anything. Let it all hang out (unless we disagree with it). Time is a circle. The suburbs are soul-destroying. Hierarchy is bad. Capitalism oppresses. Watch out for The Man (until we become The Man and then The Man is noble). Equality trumps freedom. Public transit is best. Graffiti is art. Patriotism is jingoism. Shouting down speakers is acceptable. "Best qualified" is discriminatory. The other side just doesn't disagree, it is evil and ignorant. Government is a vending machine. Male nature must be controlled. The Salad Bowl is better than the Melting Pot. Journalistic objectivity is impossible. Property is theft. Private schools are bad (unless my children go to them). Corporations are greedy exploiters. The military is a bunch of mindless war-mongers. Religion is for fools. Environmentalism trumps all. We care about people more than our opponents. People need to be re-educated. We don't want to be judgmental.
