Choose Victory

Not every remark deserves a response. Not every unfair or cruel act needs to be corrected. Not every opportunity for wit - delicious wit - should be indulged.

There are times when you take it. You subdue your temper and use your judgment and that judgment says to keep quiet. Oh sure, there are moments when we wish we'd said this or that but they are Custer at Little Big Horn and the times when we wish we'd said nothing are the Sioux.

I still seethe over memories of long-ago business meetings where someone decided to score cheap shots. It is not enjoyable to let some dunce rant but there are other considerations, such as the good of the organization, that should trump ego. If I had it to do over again, I'd still remain silent.

Life is about taking hits and moving on. Forget the skirmishes. Win at Waterloo.
