Random Thoughts

The "you can do anything" spirit is admirable but it does not mean "you should do everything." There are few problems which, with diligence and hard work, cannot be ignored until they cannot be ignored. When people criticize a decision which eventually produced poor results, they assume that the world would have been frozen in time had that decision not been taken. Amid the problems which were produced, larger problems may have averted but that is rarely included in their analysis. I don't think anyone in the inner circles of American leadership is reading Marcus Aurelius. A good dog, yard work, and a cool day are grand combinations. My guess is that a dealership specializing in used trucks would do well. Compare the masculinity displayed in Gone Girl with that in Casablanca and the more recent film does not fare well. Never assume that crisis and a sense of urgency are on speaking terms. One of the quiet joys of large meetings is watching the ornate courtesy displayed by adversaries. Many a man secretly wishes he knew how to play the bagpipes. Bookstores could assist customers by placing all of the Dysfunctional Family fiction in a special section so we'd be properly warned. The people who possess the greatest passion to hold political office are usually the last ones who should hold it. Composers of fine music stand on the peak of creativity. No other endeavor comes close. We should strive to be kind to others and should never assume that we are automatically kind to ourselves.
