Make Your Kids Eat Everything?

I'll file a respectful dissent to this item at Matthew Lang's. My younger brother and I still recall the day my father insisted that we not leave the table until we ate beets.

We hate beets to this day.

I'll allow it Michael. There are certain foods I know my kids are never going to like.

Like beets.

We employ the "no thank you" bite method, rather than "clean the plate" method. New foods must be at least tried once, with a full bite (not a dab on the tine of the fork), and must make it to the stomach before rejection is allowed. The only exceptions are if there is an allergic reaction or any threat of an adverse nauseous response. The allergic reaction is quite spectacular... Not fun when your toddler turns red and is covered in hives within minutes of trying eggs for the first time (she's perfectly fine now). Ironically, she loved them. :-(

Matthew and CincyCat,

We followed "take one bite" approach and it seemed to work. At the very least it made for more pleasant meal times.
