Mourning for Books

I mourn for the great books I have not read and for the ones I have read but won't get the chance to re-read and for the ones I donated to charities or used bookstores and then quickly regretted having done so and yet have smiled over when picking up a volume in a store and finding my signature inside the cover and, of course, there is an extra twist for those I gave away and then repurchased because books have a hold on you no matter how long you've had them or missed them.

Being intellectually curious with all these books is like being hungry and having a great banquet set out. You may eat anything you want, but since you're only human you can only eat so much. Everything you taste means there's less room for another treat.

It's joyous and sad at the same time.
