I'm currently reading all of Holmes for my fiction. It's driving me crazy because I can't figure out what story this is from - any idea?

I can't place it either. Perhaps it went with some non-Doyle story featuring Sherlock Holmes.

Dan. it is not from the original canon. it is from a pastiche[ the exploits of sherlock holmes by adrian conan doyle and john dickson carr. ] the illustation appeared in the colliers magazine 1n 1953.
