Some writing requires a fountain pen and yet there are times when a ballpoint is fine and still others when, hard to say why, a nicely-sharpened pencil feels right.
The anticipated sensation of pen or pencil to paper sends an early signal and tells us the proper choice.
There is only one consistent requirement: a smooth flow.
A keyboard is convenient but strictly utilitarian. It will never create the close relationship of a fine pen or even a good pencil.
