They thought all was well and as it had been and that their program was on track and there were no serious problems on the horizon and that they would be able to continue to tap into the expertise of one of their finest employees although they often took him for granted and sometimes even talked down to him but he was invariably pleasant and supportive so they knew they could count on his support.
And then the resignation letter arrived.
