A few years ago, I spotted a hard-bound copy of Jaguar by the French writer Loup Durand in a stack of used books that were being sold at the public library. Since I'd enjoyed Durand's earlier novel Daddy, I purchased it for a whopping 25 cents, then put the book on a shelf at home and went about other things.
Recently, seeking an escape from an array of management books, I decided to give Jaguar a try and I'm glad I did. The story is both humorous and bizarre. Although it has a lot of "Indiana Jones" moments, there is a simple description of the tone:
It is as if Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote a fantasy/thriller. Strange stuff, but very good.
Check it out.
