Creativity: "The Office"

Here's a clip of Ricky Gervais talking about the creation of the British version of "The Office."

[In my opinion, the British version is far superior to the American version.]

Absolutely :) Though Americans seem not to get English Humor, it's ironic, tongue in cheek, cynical. I find it interesting that several successful shows in other countries, networks have the idea that Americans are so unable to grasp other cultures that they have to be reworked, re scripted, with American actors to be understood by American audiences. Time and time again they change the whole dynamic of the show, and it's original essence is lost....

The translation certainly didn't work with "The Office." That said, I don't know of another actor who could be as marvelously cringe-inducing as Ricky Gervais in the role of David Brent.

The question is does why does it have to be translated from UK to USA...It is a bit sad really....Ricky is a legend
