Old Boxers

You can see a certain glint in the eye when seasoned managers start talking about their experiences. Often, they talk about their mistakes and they may even laugh about events that were anything but laughable at the time. There is a bond among those who have been there, done that, and who've heard all of the lines.

These old managers have great B.S. detectors. They know how hard it is to translate a simple concept into action. They have survived Management By Best Seller and sure things that weren't. They have heard all of the corporatespeak and their skepticism extends to upper management, unions, government, and anyone who talks a better game than he produces.

And yet, they love the work.

They are idealistic cynics.
