What are the ingredients of style?
Less trumps more and yet there must always be a sense of "enough." Kindness is better than clever, but small portions of clever can add spice. So can humor. There can be no meanness or selfishness whatsoever. Patience and serenity give form. Vulgarity is never present. Detail is important and spontaneity, whether genuine or fake, leaves a lasting memory. The ultimate product can be difficult to define but, as has been said of obscenity, you know it when you see it.
