Bad Management and Penn State

This article on the Penn State case should be read by every executive and manager. Unfortunately, it is far too easy to imagine how these people got sidetracked from doing the obvious thing. They thought of everyone but the victims.

Calling child welfare? How about calling the cops?

If nothing else, whenever you see a scandal it seems you should expect a coverup - the only reason it's against the law to cover up is otherwise very very few would willingly harm his university, employer, or self by exposing dirty laundry like this.

Lesson for business life, whenever you learn about something shady, automatically assume there are at least some people who know and should have acted but did not. It's just human nature it would seem.

Dan,

I think they get too clever and believe they can get out of an unpleasant situation without any unpleasantness. They're also afraid of losing control.
