Not As Easy

"I used to be a hot-tar roofer. Yeah, I remember that day." - Mitch Hedberg

There are many jobs that don't look easy. Right on the surface you can tell they are tough jobs and most of us wouldn't want to have any of them for more than an afternoon, if that long.

But there are other tough jobs that can deceive you into thinking they are a long nap in a comfortable chair. "No big deal," you say. "All you have to do is . . . " and then you mention a tiny part of the job. I recently heard an executive - who should have known better - discount the demands of a colleague's job. He went through the "All you have to do is" routine and outlined an approach which could have been labeled Instant Disaster.

That, in itself, was revealing.
