Sherlock's Enduring Appeal

I am a major fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories but remain undecided as to their appeal. Is it mainly due to his mind or to his eccentric personality?

I have come to enjoy Poirot more than Holmes. When I reread Holmes I find the writing less charming than I used to.

I think the fascination is with an uberman who can outthink everyone else is just an enduring archetype, and Doyle was about the first to apply this to crime fiction.

Daniel,

Poirot is great!

I believe you are right about the model.
