Geek Humor: If Houses Were Like Software

Check out this marvelous item from James Taylor's blog on if houses were like software.

First of all, this post is a sales pitch from a guy who sells software that he claims can "empower your business users with control over some of their system", which is BS.

Software is inherently complicated. It's nothing like a house. Every time a piece of software is built, the programmer is innovating. To complicate things, there's a huge gap between what the end-users ask for and what they really want. There's definitely an art to getting useful information out of a request for a software change.

There is some truth to this. IT departments get a bad rap, some justified and some unjustified. Having an inefficient IT department says more about the ability of the organization to hire and develop their IT staff than it does about IT in general.

Kosta,

Thanks for your comments. I can fully appreciate your observation that the piece compares "apples to oranges." I thought it was humorous but you're right, the comparison has inherent problems.
