Sharing Business Ideas

Dane Carlson's Business Opportunities Web Blog has an interesting post about the danger - or the safety - of sharing business ideas with others.

The point about execution, not the idea, usually being the real meat of the matter is dead on.

At the same time though, it makes sense to exercise some basic discretion. I'm amazed at the confidential items I hear people discussing in airports. It didn't surprise me when a report came out years ago that the French government was bugging first class airline seats on some airlines as a means of gaining business ideas.

Michael,

You're absolutely right. Too many would-be entrepreneurs hold their ideas too close to their chest and never able to get some basic feedback from their peers.

Ideas are cheap -- it's the execution that matters, and is valuable.

Dane,

Thanks for your post. There are at least two major protections against ideas being stolen: laziness and the natural resistance to anything that's new.
