For the politics of the celebrity-dominated unofficial culture, now our official culture, are, like those of Hollywood, always essentially juvenile. They are based on feelings of empathy for and self-identification with those whose achievements are few, resentments against those who expect one's own achievements to be many, and a vague but stubborn conviction that an infallible guide to political rectitude is provided by the principle that, as a popular beat combo once put it, "Love is all you need."
