A Call for Traditional Architecture

A classic post from Michael at 2Blowhards on the way government buildings used to look versus the architecture of the modern ones.

You could make the same comparisons with schools. Many modern elementary and high schools look like prisons. They lack anything that might lift the spirit.

Related book recommendation: Tom Wolfe's From Bahaus to Our House.

You could make the same comparison with the buildings that house schools of architecture. Compare the buildings for the schools of architecture at Yale or Virginia with Wurster Hall at UC Berkeley. That last could be the single ugliest public building on the planet.
