Summer Reading

Here's my own ambitious list:

  • Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman
  • The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb
  • Sell and Market Your Way Out of This Recession by Nicholas Bate
  • In Pursuit of Elegance by Matthew E. May
  • Ordinary Men by Christopher R. Browning
  • His Excellency George Washington by Joseph J. Ellis
  • Sacred Games by Vikram Chandra
  • American Lion by Jon Meacham
  • At least a couple of books by Ed McBain
  • Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens
  • Londonistan by Melanie Phillips
  • Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo

Here's a list from Cultural Offering.

And one from The Wall Street Journal.

ANOTHER UPDATE: A look at the new world of books from View from the Ledge.

Enthusiastic votes for American Lion, Pursuit of Elegance and anything by Ed McBain. Otherwise, plenty of ideas for things to read. Except for Black Swan, which I've decided is one idea and several hundred pages of elaboration.

I've heard that about The Black Swan but figured I'd give it a try. Just started the Isaacson biography of Benjamin Franklin. I should have put it on the list.

Ed McBain, of course, never lets you down.
