  • At least a couple of books by Ed McBain
  • Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens
  • Londonistan by Melanie Phillips

Here's a list from Cultural Offering.

And one from The Wall Street Journal.

Enthusiastic votes for American Lion, Pursuit of Elegance and anything by Ed McBain. Otherwise, plenty of ideas for things to read. Except for Black Swan, which I've decided is one idea and several hundred pages of elaboration.

Wally,

I've heard that about The Black Swan but figured I'd give it a try. Just started the Isaacson biography of Benjamin Franklin. I should have put it on the list.

Ed McBain, of course, never lets you down.
