The Sympathizer is an odd type, ready at short notice to provide a gentle audience and many kind words while never doing anything tangible to assist.
Indeed, many Sympathizers may well benefit from the other person's plight. They will denounce that privilege as contemptible, but won't relinquish it. They will do everything in their power to assist except give any assistance which may alter the circumstances. This does not seem to bother them, possibly because in their eyes the heart counts more than actions. If they feel the proper way, then they are in the clear.
And they are always prepared to feel deeply.
